Instructions for Authors

This journal uses ScholarOne Manuscripts (previously Manuscript Central) to peer review manuscript submissions. Please read the guide for ScholarOne authors before making a submission. Complete guidelines for preparing and submitting your manuscript to this journal are provided below.
Authors should prepare and upload two versions of their manuscript. One should be a complete text, which should include a title page identifying the author/s, and should be named ''File not for Review'' while in the second all information identifying the author should be removed to allow for peer reviewing of anonymous manuscripts. Please name this ''Anonymous File for Review''.
When you revise your manuscript please highlight the changes you make in the manuscript by using the track changes mode in MS Word. Please DO NOT simply bold or highlight your revisions. You will need to upload two versions of your revised article to ScholarOne Manuscripts, following the same procedure as for submitting your initial version:
2. A 'clean' version should be uploaded and titled 'manuscript for review purposes'. Please select 'main document' from the drop down menu to describe this version.
Original articles, between 4,000 and 8,000 words. The upper word limit of 8,000 is inclusive of a bibliography and an abstract of up to 150 words. Please note that your article will be unsubmitted from ScholarOne Manuscripts if it exceeds this upper word limit. The editors will consider revised articles (up to a maximum word limit of 9,000 words) if reviewers have requested additional material, but all initial submissions must not exceed 8,000 words.
Viewpoint and Current Concerns
Up to 5,000 words; as with Original Articles, submissions will be un-submitted from ScholarOne Manuscripts if this upper word limit is exceeded. The editors will consider revised submissions up to a maximum of 6,000 words if reviewers have requested additional material.
Both these shorter, occasional features aim to provide a forum for discussions that enhance and develop the feminist ethos of the journal. Both features aim to create a space for feminist educationalists to think, write and share commentary and opinion in areas of gender scholarship that will be of interest to our readership. Current Concerns is specifically devised to respond to topical, important issues in gender and education as they arise in countries across the world.
Reviews, Gender and Education seeks to review a wide range of material. We focus on academic books relating to gender, sexuality and education (in its broadest sense), but also review some books directed at practice, some academic books in related fields (for example, on gender theory or gender and employment) and some non-fiction books written for a more general market. We will also consider reviewing relevant films. The reviews editor actively seeks out such material but authors and publishers are welcome to send them review copies and/or publicity material about relevant texts.
Reviews are carried out by people studying or working in relevant areas. Books are usually reviewed by informed non-experts. The reviews editor actively encourages people who are new to reviewing and to journal publication. To this end they send out a ‘Beginners Guide to Book Reviewing' and offer to constructively comment on a draft review. If you would like to review for the journal then you should email the reviews editor directly.
Manuscripts should not presently be under consideration for publication elsewhere.
Submissions should be double spaced, with ample margins and bear the title of the contribution plus an abstract of 100-150 words and six keywords for online searching purposes. In order to protect anonymity, name(s) of the author(s) and institutional address, if any, should appear on a separate title page. The full postal address of the author who will check proofs and receive correspondence and offprints should also be included. All pages should be numbered. Footnotes to the text should be avoided wherever this is reasonably possible. The approximate total number of words should be specified on the title page.

iFirst
iFirst is Taylor & Francis' proprietary system for publishing journal articles online almost immediately after author proofs have been corrected, so making New Knowledge available to the research community in the shortest possible time.
Articles appear exactly as they would in the journal's final online and print edition, with the single difference that ‘page spans' are not included – although we plan to introduce this in the near future!
All subscribers with electronic access to a journal can access iFirst articles.
iFirst reduces the time from article submission to publication – sometimes by several weeks.
