Instructions for Authors
Pacific Review welcomes contributions covering any aspect of the domestic politics, economics and international relations of the countries of the Asia-Pacific region. While it is a peer reviewed journal, it is written for more than just an academic audience and thus it also aims to address issues of contemporary policy relevance and have a lively and readable style. We are also interested in material related to the concerns of Europeans and particularly encourage submissions that deal with aspects of the relationships between the two areas.
Submissions
Submission of both articles should be in English and typed in double spacing (including all notes and references). English or American spelling is acceptable provided usage is consistent. Manuscripts should be submitted electronically via The Pacific Review's Manuscript Central site at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/rpre.
Authors should prepare and upload two versions of their manuscript. One should be a complete text including the manuscript title, institutional affiliation(s) of the author(s), the word count of the manuscript (including notes, tables and references), the date of the manuscript, an abstract (up to 300 words), author contact details (including email and full postal addresses), and the name of the corresponding author who will check proofs and receive offprints. When uploading their files, authors should define this non-anonymous version as “File not for review”.
The second version of the manuscript should have all information identifying the author removed to allow it to be sent anonymously to referees. This file should be defined as “Main Document.”
A list of up to 6 key words, suitable for indexing, abstracting services and on-line searching purposes should also be supplied.
Articles should not exceed 10,000 words in length inclusive of all notes, references and tables. Notes should be kept to a minimum and placed at the end of the article before the References; footnotes should be avoided.
A brief biographical note about each author should be supplied as a separate document, which should be defined as “Author Bio.” Details should be given of author's full postal and e-mail addresses as well as telephone and fax numbers.
Submission of an article will be taken to imply that it presents original, unpublished work not under consideration for publication elsewhere. By submitting a manuscript, the authors agree that the exclusive rights to reproduce and distribute the article have been given to the Publishers.
Permission to quote from or reproduce copyright material must be obtained by the authors before submission and acknowledgements should be included in the typescript, preferably in the form of an Acknowledgements section at the end of the paper, before the Notes. Where photographs or figures are reproduced, acknowledgement of source and copyright should be given in the caption.
Illustrations
Tables, figures and plates should not be inserted within the pages of the manuscript but should be submitted on separate sheets attached to the article.
- Tables should be prepared with the minimum use of horizontal rules (usually three are sufficient) and avoiding vertical rules.
- It is important to provide clear copy of figures (not photocopies or faxes) which can be reproduced by the printer and do not require redrawing.
- Photographs should be high-contrast black and white glossy prints.
The desired position for each table, figure and plate should be indicated in the manuscript.
References
The Harvard reference system, preferred in this journal, uses the name of the author, the date of publication and, following quoted material, the page reference as a key to the full bibliographical details set out in a list of References, which should include (in alphabetical order by author) every work cited in the text. Where there are two or more works by one author in the same year, these should be distinguished by using 1980a, 1980b etc. Authors are asked to ensure that dates, spelling and titles are used in the References are consistent with those listed in the text. The content and format of the Reference list should conform to the following example:
